IMLS Seeks Comments on Public Library Survey
In a Federal Register notice published on Monday August 23, 2010, IMLS issued a call for comments on its Public Library Survey. The survey provides essential data about public library service in the US including service hours, book circulation, number of librarians, service area population, technology and more.
The survey is made possible through the cooperation of state libraries that provide data each year and through an agreement with the US Census Bureau. Analysis of survey data has led to policy and funding decisions that improve library service in the United States.
For results and analysis of the most recent survey, see IMLS FY2008 Public Libraries Survey Report. For recent analysis see Service Trends in US Public Libraries and Libraries Use Broadband to Serve High Need Communities.
